Mr. Sevin concentrates his practice exclusively in the area of family law, representing parties in the litigation and resolution of sophisticated matrimonial and family related matters.

He counsels clients on a wide range of divorce-related issues including custody disputes, analysis of complex financial matters, prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, and the disposition of marital and non-marital assets.

Mr. Sevin has successfully litigated issues including maintenance and child support, fraudulent transfer of assets and dissipation claims, valuation and division of assets, adequate compensation and characterization of marital and non-marital assets. He has successfully represented parties in international and multi-jurisdictional family law litigation, including actions under the 1980 Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction and the International Child Abduction Remedies Act (ICARA).

Mr. Sevin is an adjunct professor at DePaul University College of Law where he teaches and frequently speaks on various litigation and trial-related matters, including drafting, cross examination, trial strategy and oral argument.  He has also completed the intensive family law trial advocacy program of the National Family Law Trial Institute in Houston, Texas.

Widely regarded as a leader in family law, Mr. Sevin has been recognized by Super Lawyers magazine as an “Illinois Super Lawyer” every year since 2019, following his earlier distinction as an “Illinois Rising Star” from 2011 to 2018. He is also honored in Best Lawyers in America, beginning with its 2025 edition, and has been distinguished as a “Leading Lawyer” since 2025, building on his prior recognition as an “Emerging Lawyer” by the Leading Lawyers Network in 2016, 2017, and 2020.

Michael was also appointed to the Family Law Section Council for the Illinois State Bar Association for 2020-2024.
