Reid Sherard leads the Family Law practice group at Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd and focuses his practice on complex, high-stakes divorce and domestic relations matters. Based in Greenville, his hometown, he represents clients across South Carolina in cases involving significant financial and personal considerations.
Reid’s family law practice centers on complex divorce litigation, including matters involving substantial assets, income, and valuation issues, as well as contested custody disputes, interstate and international jurisdiction matters, and premarital and postnuptial agreements. Over the course of his career, he has represented hundreds of individuals—including chief executive officers, business owners, doctors, lawyers, professional athletes, coaches, judges, and other professionals—and their spouses and partners. He is known for developing tailored strategies to address challenging personal matters, whether through negotiated resolution or trial, while remaining sensitive to the private nature of each case.
In addition to his family law work, Reid maintains a broader litigation and appellate practice. He has tried cases in federal district court as well as in various state and local courts, and has argued ten appeals, including before the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, the South Carolina Supreme Court, and the South Carolina Court of Appeals.
Reid is widely respected within the legal community and enjoys the confidence of his peers. He has received numerous peer-nominated and peer-reviewed recognitions and is frequently invited to speak on family law topics at statewide seminars. He also serves as the course planner for the longest-running family law-specific seminar in the state, and fellow family lawyers regularly seek his input on complex matters.
Before joining Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd, Reid practiced for 15 years at an Am Law 100 firm. He is a graduate of the Family Law Trial Institute in Texas and began his legal career as a law clerk to the late Honorable G. Ross Anderson, Jr., United States District Judge for the District of South Carolina.
