Ira Treuhaft

Ira Treuhaft is the managing partner of Treuhaft & Zakarin, LLP, where he concentrates his practice on matrimonial law and bankruptcy matters. Drawing on a background in political strategy and advocacy, Ira brings a thoughtful and strategic approach to representing clients facing complex legal, financial, and personal challenges.

Ira advises clients in a wide range of matrimonial matters, helping individuals navigate divorce and related financial disputes with clarity, practical guidance, and strong advocacy. His experience in both matrimonial law and bankruptcy provides valuable insight in cases involving financial restructuring and complex economic considerations. He is known for combining strategic analysis with a client-centered approach tailored to each client’s circumstances and long-term goals.

Before entering the legal profession, Ira worked extensively in political campaigns and consulting, managing campaigns in New York, New Jersey, and Ohio before founding The Treu Group, a political consulting firm focused on electoral strategy. This background strengthened his negotiation, advocacy, and analytical skills, which continue to inform his legal practice today.

Ira earned his Bachelor of Arts in History from University of Maryland, Baltimore County in 1999 and his Juris Doctor from University of Maryland School of Law in 2002. During law school, he interned with the Honorable Marvin J. Garbus and worked with then-Majority Leader Eric I. Cantor, gaining exposure to both the judicial and legislative systems.

In addition to his legal practice, Ira serves as an adjunct professor at Fairleigh Dickinson University, where he shares his experience with students interested in law and public affairs.

Ira is admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey, as well as before multiple federal courts, including the Eastern, Western, Southern, and Northern Districts of New York and the District of New Jersey.
